Meet the doctors
Dr Peter Monckton
Dr Peter Monckton was born in Mount Morgan, raised in Baralaba, and completed his schooling in Rockhampton. He graduated as a dentist from the University of Queensland in 1985 and spent three years as a flying dentist in outback Queensland. During this time, he held positions as dentist-in-charge of Longreach and Mt Isa Base Hospitals. From 1989 to 1992, Dr Monckton practiced general dentistry privately in Goondiwindi.
Trained in top orthodontics programs
In 1992, Dr Monckton was invited to take up appointment at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, where he undertook postgraduate training in orthodontics in one of the top training programmes in the United States. During this time, he also gained experience in the world’s leading training centre for adult orthodontics.
After returning to Australia in 1995, Dr Monckton set up practice in Mackay. Over the past 20 years, the practice has grown from one chair and one staff member to the successful practice that it is today. Dr Monckton is proactive in providing his supportive team members with the ongoing training required to deliver a high level of quality orthodontic treatment and service to our patients.
Current expertise and advanced technology
Dr Monckton is a leader in technological advances in his practice. This includes the use of laser technology and a three-dimensional cone beam imaging machine. Dr Monckton is also an accredited Invisalign provider, achieving Platinum Elite status for the past 5 years. He is involved in a national Invisalign study group to ensure his expertise in Invisalign continues to develop. Dr Monckton stays on the cutting edge of orthodontics by participating in a variety of continuing education programmes, both in Australia and overseas.
Dr Monckton is a registered Dental Specialist with the Dental Board and is a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, and the Australian Dental Association Queensland.

Dr Victoria Beck
Victoria grew up in Dunedin, New Zealand. She graduated in dentistry from the University of Otago in 2005 and after working for one year as a dental house surgeon in Invercargill, then worked privately for four years in Dunedin before gaining entry to Otago’s orthodontic programme. This was something Victoria had dreamed of since being an undergraduate student.
Victoria moved to Queensland in December 2013 after graduating.
Outside of work Victoria enjoys trail running and ultra-distance races. She has really enjoyed exploring some of the local trains and getting involved with the Mackay running community.
Dr Beck has been treating patients at Torque Orthodontics for over 2 years. Dr Beck is committed to providing excellent treatment and care to her patients, making their treatment experience a very positive one. She is much loved by her patients and their families.
